Why are you asking community members for feedback on the Bisterne Park area?

Waltham Forest's aim is to create a greener, healthier future, as set out in our Borough Missions and Climate Action Plan.

The area of Bisterne Park has been identified as an area with existing issues with the volume, speed and impact of traffic, and our aim is to make it easier and safer for local people to get around by active and sustainable modes of travel, such as walking, cycling, and public transport. We also aim to improve the look and feel of the area while also making it greener and healthier.

By improving how streets are used, we can help create a neighbourhood where streets are not just for cars, but places where people can safely walk, cycle, meet neighbours, and where children can play.

What streets are you asking for feedback on?

We are asking for feedback on the area bounded by Forest Road, Wood Street, Lea Bridge Road, and Woodford New Road.

However, if you have something to add about a nearby street, please mention this in your survey response and we will pass it to the relevant team for consideration for future schemes.

Will this affect how I drive or access my street?

No changes are proposed at this time, we simply want to hear your views on the Bisterne Park area. This will help us develop proposals for improvements that reflect local needs. This may include changes to road layouts and measures to reduce through-traffic such as modal filters and traffic direction changes, but any proposals will be subject to further consultation with the local community.

    How will decisions be made?

All feedback received will be carefully reviewed alongside traffic data to shape potential proposals. Any proposals will be subject to further consultation before any final decisions are made.

Who can take part in this consultation?

Anyone who lives in, works in, or travels through the area is welcome to take part. We want to hear from a wide range of people to ensure the feedback reflects local experiences.

How long does the survey take and what happens with my feedback?

The survey takes around five minutes to complete. All responses will be analysed and used to inform the development of potential proposals for the area.

What kind of changes could be considered?

We will explore a range of potential improvements based on your feedback. These may include:

    • Measures to reduce through-traffic, such as modal filters and traffic direction changes
    • New or different traffic calming measures and changes to road layout to reduce speeding
    • More trees and planting to make streets greener and cooler
    • Green spaces to improve biodiversity
    • Rain gardens to reduce flooding and improve drainage
    • Improvements to help people cross the road, including formal crossings and continuous footways
    • Accessibility improvements

    When would any changes happen?

There is currently no confirmed timeline for any works. If proposals move forward, community members would be informed of any next stages and any future considerations.

We will aim to be in touch with the community with the results of the survey and next steps in Autumn 2026.
