Why should I get involved?

Residents, businesses, local organisations and cultural stakeholders should reap the benefits of embedding and supporting culture in the town centre’s growth and will play a key role in the development any strategy to support growth of the sector

Recognising the excellent value of the vibrant cultural world already animating Walthamstow and the wider borough and to ensure a sustainable long-term vision for the town centre, the Council will adopt a participatory approach, involving key cultural stakeholders and the wider community through a variety of engagement opportunities, since the very early stages of the process. The strategy will establish a common vision and core values for the cultural offer and production in the area and a framework to guide the development of a cultural district in Walthamstow. It will build on the Council’s track record of delivering high-impact culture-led regeneration and contribute to our 15-minute cultural neighbourhood for Walthamstow.

It is our aim to ensure that cultural activities in Walthamstow are accessible to all and that any strategy developed includes inputs from many voices as we recognise that we all have a vital contribution to make in order to improve the quality of life for people and communities.

Is this only going to benefit Walthamstow?

The Council is commissioning a borough-wide cultural strategy to establish a framework for cultural investment, infrastructure and programming between 2023- 27, building a sustainable inclusive legacy from the successful programme as first London Borough of Culture in 2019 establishing the borough as a significant cultural destination. Supporting culture in Walthamstow will have wider benefits for the town centre and the entire borough.
