What’s important to you
What is a dockless e-bike?
A dockless e-bike is a shared electric bike that can be hired using an operator's mobile app. Unlike traditional cycle hire schemes, such as TfL’s Santander Cycles, dockless e-bikes do not need to be returned to a docking station. In many London boroughs, riders must leave dockless e-bikes in marked parking bays at the end of their journey.
Why is the council exploring a scheme?
Dockless e-bikes could help people:
Make short journeys without using a car
Travel to stations and bus routes
Reach town centres more easily
Travel to neighbouring boroughs
Try cycling without owning a bike
We also know residents have concerns about:
Dockless e-bikes blocking pavements
Poor parking
Too many dockless e-bikes in one place
Slow action when problems are reported
Learning about these concerns now will help us understand how any future scheme could work best for Waltham Forest.
