The Hatherley Mews project aims to keep the character and heritage features of the Mews by reducing the impact of traffic, improving the pedestrian experience, and enhancing the look and feel of the area.

This project is part of the Local Regeneration Funded Culture for All programme which is investing in spaces and buildings across Walthamstow Town Centre. The programme aims to enhance the local environment, support businesses, and create a more vibrant cultural destination.

  • Upcoming Refurbishment Works

Upcoming construction works in Hatherley Mews will form part of a wider programme of government-funded investment across Walthamstow Town Centre, known as the Walthamstow Culture for All Programme. The programme aims to enhance the local environment, support businesses, and create a more vibrant cultural destination.

    The improvements will include:

    • Structural and internal refurbishment to various units
    • Installation of new shopfronts and replacement windows
    • External repainting
    • Enlargement of the existing bin store
    • Installation of a new cycle store.

The works are expected to begin on Tuesday 30 June 2026 and are expected to complete in December 2026. The programme is subject to construction progress and site conditions, and any unforeseen circumstances or additional works identified during opening-up, demolition, or structural investigations may impact delivery.

During the construction period, businesses and residents may experience:

    • Increased construction traffic and delivery vehicles
    • Temporary suspension of parking bays on Hatherley Road
    • Periodic noise, vibration and dust associated with construction activities
    • Temporary changes to access arrangements within Hatherley Mews

In order to safely undertake the works, pedestrian access between Hatherley Road and Hoe Street through the Mews will be unavailable during the construction period. Deliveries to businesses within the Mews should therefore be made via Hoe Street, subject to the existing traffic restrictions and permitted loading times.

Appropriate dust suppression, housekeeping, traffic management and public protection measures will be implemented throughout the works.

The project team will continue to liaise with businesses and occupiers throughout the construction period and will provide advance notice of significant activities where reasonably practicable.

We understand that these works may be disruptive, however, our aim is to minimise disruption as much as possible, and we will keep you informed throughout the works. We will also work with affected businesses to maintain access wherever possible.

We thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to improve Walthamstow Town Centre.
