Our High Road Leytonstone

High Road Leytonstone is one of the borough’s most important high streets. It provides a key transport corridor for commuters, linking Leytonstone and South Leytonstone with Maryland and Stratford, with more than 11,000 drivers, 6,000 pedestrians and 1,200 cyclists using the road every day. The street is home to many residents, as well as being a commercial hub, with vibrant small businesses.

In 2021, we asked you what the area should look like in the future and used this information to create the South Leytonstone Area Framework. Some of the key priorities raised included activating High Road Leytonstone by improving public spaces and making it easier to walk and cycle to key transport hubs and nearby town centres.

We want to work with you to build on these priorities to make the area more sustainable, support businesses to thrive and create spaces for everyone to enjoy.

This aligns with the borough’s goals to create streets that are safe and easy to walk, wheel and cycle on, to boost active travel and reduce vehicle dominance to address the climate crises.
