Housing Service: Fire Safety Policy

Overview
This consultation is for Waltham Forest residents living in council-managed properties or social housing. We are seeking your feedback on the proposed Housing Fire Safety Policy, which aims to ensure that fire safety measures in council-managed housing are effective in protecting residents' lives and wellbeing.

The Housing Fire Safety Policy outlines:

  • How we identify and manage fire risks in our properties.

  • The steps we take to prevent fires and ensure residents’ safety.

  • The process for responding to fire safety concerns raised by residents.

What is fire safety?
Fire safety refers to the measures taken to prevent fires from occurring and to protect people if a fire does break out. This includes fire-resistant building materials, smoke alarms, fire doors, escape routes, and clear guidance for residents on fire prevention and emergency response.

For example: A resident notices that a communal fire door is not closing properly, potentially compromising fire safety. The Housing Fire Safety Policy ensures that residents know how to report such issues and that appropriate action is taken promptly to rectify safety risks.
