Waltham Forest’s industrial areas provide a key source of local jobs: everything from furniture making to baking, set design to logistics. With demand for industrial workspace growing, we need to carefully plan to meet this need.
Waltham Forest has a proud industrial history – and a bright future. New types of industrial uses – such as artisan makers, tech start-ups, and last-mile logistics operators – are driving demand for additional industrial floorspace. With limited space for new industrial land, we need to intensify our existing supply.
This Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) will set out how the Borough’s industrial areas can make the most efficient use of available land. We want to ensure that the right types of industrial uses are delivered in the right places – and that all new development is of exemplar design quality, environmentally sustainable, and is a ‘good neighbour’ to other uses in the Borough.
The guidance for Industrial Intensification is supported by the four principles of exemplar design, which have been used to develop all of the planning guidance documents.
How can you get involved?
This consultation closed on 6 August 2023 however you will have a further opportunity to provide feedback when the draft SPD is published for statutory consultation.
