What are we consulting on?

The Council is consulting on a proposal on the future of the Markhouse Centre, at 247 Markhouse Road, Walthamstow, E17 8DW, including its potential closure. The Council currently use the Centre to provide building-based day opportunities for eligible social care clients, people with learning disabilities and people with learning disabilities and autism. The Centre operates Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 3.30pm.

The consultation runs from 8th July to Sunday 25th August and the views and opinions shared during the consultation will be presented in the report that goes to the Council’s Cabinet Committee who will take the decision about the future of Markhouse Centre.


Why are we consulting?

Before taking any decision, the Council especially wants to hear from people using buildings-based day support, their family carers, residents, providers and other key stakeholders about the proposal to close the Markhouse Centre.

  • A standard pack of information about the proposal to close the Centre and a print version of the survey (online survey link below)
  • An EASY READ consultation pack and EASY READ version of the survey
  • EASY READ profiles of alternative day opportunities providers in Waltham Forest and neighbouring boroughs.
  • The information packs have the following information:
    • Information about the proposal to close Markhouse Centre that we are consulting on.
    • Reasons for the proposal and reasons why we are consulting.
    • Who we want to hear from.
    • When, how and where people can share their views and opinions on the proposal.
    • Questions and answers: a set of questions and answers about the proposals.
    • Other day opportunities information about a range of other day opportunities services available in Waltham Forest and in neighbouring boroughs.
    • The consultation survey for residents to complete and send back to the Council to have their say.

The online survey is an opportunity to share your thoughts on the future of the Markhouse Centre. Feedback from residents and other key stakeholders will feed into the decision taken by the Council’s Cabinet Committee about the future of the service.
