What is Let's Talk?
Let’s Talk is an engagement programme to find out what improvement residents want to see in their local area. We will:
Conversations will bring the new 15-minute neighbourhood approach to life, and to understand the improvements that residents would like to see to support the vision through a mixture of engagement at flagship events, online engagement and Cllr-led conversations.
What are 15 Minute Neighbourhoods?
15-Minute Neighbourhoods are places where people can easily reach most, if not all, of the facilities, experiences and activities they need daily, within a short walk, wheel, or cycle from home. We believe 15-Minute Neighbourhoods will lead to healthier, happier and fairer communities.
Local people know their neighbourhoods best and we want everyone to have more of a say over the places in which they live and the services they use. Over the last year, we have spoken with thousands of residents from across the borough, listening to and understanding diverse experiences, and exploring people’s desires for 15-Minute Neighbourhoods. Read the report on the research and engagement to develop 15-Minute Neighbourhoods in Waltham Forest.
What is a physical improvement?
A physical improvement is a change or addition to the public realm.
For example, this might be installing a mirror to improve safety at a junction, an art mural on a high street, fixing broken things in a community space, a pocket park on a street, more bike hangars to support active travel, or re-developing a walkway to support accessibility.
Who decides on the what changes are made?
Your local Ward Councillors will decide on the improvements that happen in your ward.
How will these improvements be funded?
Each ward will receive a portion of funding from the North london Waste Authority proportionate to the number of Councillors that represent the ward. For a 3-Cllr ward, £20,000 will be available for the improvement projects that are decided by ward Councillors. For a 2-Cllr ward, £13,333 will be available.
