Housing Service: Mechanical and Electrical contractor consultation
Overview We would like to hear from Waltham Forest residents, particularly those living in council-owned or council-managed housing.
This consultation is for council tenants, leaseholders, and shared owners to share your views and suggestions on the upcoming re-procurement of the Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) contract. Your feedback will help us shape how these essential services are delivered in the future.
What is the M&E contract? The council’s Housing Service currently delivers Mechanical and Electrical services through a long-term contract with Aston Group. This contract covers repairs, call-outs, and replacements for a wide range of services that help keep your homes safe and comfortable. These include:
Gas central heating
Lifts
Door entry systems
Fire alarms
Boosted the cold water supply to flats in high-rise blocks
Sprinklers
Water hygiene (checking tanks and monthly water monitoring)
Communal heating systems
Other areas include:
TV aerials
Emergency lighting testing
Periodic electrical checks
Automatic gates
Domestic smoke detectors
Dry risers (for London Fire Brigade usage for high-rise buildings)
Why are we consulting? The current contract is due to be renewed on 1 April 2027, and we want to understand your experience with the existing service:
What has worked well?
What could have been better?
What would you like us to consider when planning the new contract?
Your feedback will help us improve the delivery of services after the renewal date.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This consultation only applies to the services listed above. Please do not include comments about plumbing or general building repairs and maintenance, as these will be consulted on separately.
