Improvements to Markhouse Corner

As part of feedback on the Lea Bridge Area Framework you told us you’d like to see improvements to the Markhouse Corner area as well as things like more planting, community greening projects, public art and support for local businesses in Lea Bridge.

We reviewed these responses alongside feedback to other engagement on Markhouse Corner carried out in previous years and commissioned a design team to come up with some early ideas for improvements including introducing new greening.

Last summer we asked for feedback from local residents, businesses and community groups on these suggestions to help us develop the designs for the project and last year we shared the final designs with you!

What are the next steps?

We are pleased to let you know that we are ready to begin works to deliver the improvements and expect to start week commencing Monday 30 September 2024.

The works will last for approximately three months and will be done in phases by location. They will take place by the clock at the junction of Markhouse Road, Church Road and Lea Bridge Road, at the corner by Potters House and at Barker House.

To implement the construction works safely, there will be special arrangements during this period including temporary traffic control measures in the area, which may include temporary traffic signals and temporary diversion of cycle lanes onto the carriageway.

For more information on arrangements whilst the improvements are being made, view the letter delivered to local businesses and residents at Mellish Flats on this page. We have also shared information with Barker House residents.
