Guidance pages throughout the document provide advice on a range of different types of extensions and alterations. The different types of advice are detailed further below in section 1.8.


Retrofit considerations

Retrofit considerations pages throughout the document show examples of measures you could take alongside your home extension or alteration to achieve a sustainable and energy efficient home. These opportunities are above and beyond the mandatory and advisory requirements.


Case studies

Case studies are included, showcasing exemplar home alteration projects that have successfully integrated retrofit measures.

1.8 Guidance

Design guidance is key to ensuring that exemplar design principles are delivered throughout all stages of development. The guidance in this document is intended to support proposals that are of exemplar design quality and build on the policies of the Local Plan Part 1.

Numbered paragraphs shaded pink throughout the document indicate guidance that has been carefully drafted to assist with decision making.

There are two types of guidance included in this document:
