  • Work between Kingsley Road and Melsetter Road to begin soon

We’re pleased to have finished works at Wood Street junction on schedule in August 2026.

This means Section 3 (Wood Street to Hale End Road) and Junction 2 (Wood Street) are now complete. A small amount of finishing work by utility companies is still to take place, but this isn't expected to cause significant disruption.

In the coming weeks, we will begin work on Section 2 between Kingsley Road and Melsetter Road. This will be followed by works at Junction 1, where Forest Road meets Shernhall Street, including the section outside Waltham Forest College.

The works include new pavements, bus stops, segregated cycle tracks, signal-controlled crossings, lighting and rain gardens with low-level planting and trees.

Construction is expected to take about 14 months. Disruption should be minor for the rest of 2026, but some delays are likely in 2027 during the busier junction works. We will continue to coordinate closely with Transport for London and with other planned works in the area to keep disruption to a minimum.

As this section includes the road outside Waltham Forest College, we are aiming to schedule the works so this part is completed in the 2027 school holidays.

Before any particularly disruptive works take place, we will let residents and businesses know what’s happening and when. We’ll do this by sending letters to affected properties, placing signs on the street, and providing updates on the scheme web page so you have as much notice as possible of any changes which may affect you.

  • Works to resurface junction in August

We’re resurfacing the junction of Forest Road, Wood Street and Fulbourne Road in late August.

Between the evening of Friday 21 August to the morning of Monday 24 August, teams will be on site between 8pm and 5am.

    During these times:

    • The junction will be completely closed to traffic, except for emergency services
    • Some parking bays will be temporarily suspended
    • Signed diversion routes will be in place for motorists
    • Bus routes will be diverted – visit tfl.gov.uk/bus/status/ for more information.

We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause and will do our best to minimise disruption while these works are being carried out.

We’re also continuing to coordinate our programme with utility companies and Transport for London to help reduce pressure on the network where possible.

Following the completion of this phase, preparatory work will begin for the next stage of construction between Kinglsey Road and Melsetter Road in September.

  • Works progress, expect delays

Traffic delays are expected as work begins on the northwestern arm of the junction at Forest Road, Wood Street and Fulbourne Road.

During these works, the footpath will be temporarily narrowed. However, all shops will remain open and accessible as usual. Some parking on Fulbourne Road will also be suspended.

Due to lane reductions on Forest and Fulbourne roads during these works, journey times are likely to be impacted.

We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause and will do our best to minimise disruption while these works are being carried out.

Thank you for your continued patience and support as we work to make Forest Road safer, more accessible, and more efficient for everyone.

Separately, there’s also some other ongoing works in the area we would like to inform you of.

    Other works in the area

    Northeastern arm of junction

The northeastern arm of the junction between Forest Road and Wood Street will have a temporary footpath in place until Virgin Media are able to relocate their infrastructure later this year.

    Clifford Road one-way

Developers Manak Homes have temporarily made Clifford Road one-way to allow for construction works at the former petrol station located at 817-823 Forest Road.

While this is not part of the Forest Road corridor scheme works, it may have an impact on traffic in the area.

    The one-way system means:

    • There’s no entry to Clifford Road from Fulbourne Road. This restriction is in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is expected to remain for 18 months.
    • Access to Clifford Road will be via Forest Road only, with vehicles entering from the Forest Road junction.
    • Traffic will travel in one direction only, from Forest Road towards the far end of Clifford Road.

For more information, please contact virdee@manakhomes.co.uk.

  • Plan ahead for likely traffic disruption

There’s likely to be traffic disruption over the next couple of weeks as we continue to upgrade the Forest Road, Wood Street and Fulbourne Road junction.

Construction of the cycle lane on Wood Street began last week, and work to rebuild the footways outside Woodside Primary Academy is due to start towards the end of April.

Due to the nature of these works and the need for additional temporary traffic signals, there is likely to be disruption to traffic in the area until mid-May.

To enable these works, the entrance to Precision House carpark will be closed from 27 April to 16 May. Affected residents have been notified about alternative arrangements.

We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause and will do our best to minimise disruption while these works are being carried out.

  • Works are underway at the Forest Road, Wood Street and Fulbourne Road junction

Work has started at the junction of Forest Road, Wood Street and Fulbourne Road, which may affect traffic in the area.

Following preparatory works carried out in late 2025, we are now constructing improvements on the southern arm of the junction.

The northbound bus stop on Wood Street (Forest Road / Wood Street Library) will be temporarily relocated nearby to maintain accessibility.

We’re working closely with Transport for London to monitor and coordinate traffic flow throughout the works.

We will notify residents and businesses in advance of any particularly disruptive works taking place directly outside their properties. Where necessary, temporary parking or loading dispensations will be arranged for affected properties.

  • Hale End Road junction: Plan ahead, utility works

PowerON and Thames Water will be on Forest Road making upgrades to their networks from this week, which could impact traffic in the area.

These essential works will take about eight to ten weeks to complete.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place during the works. This could cause traffic delays, so please plan your journeys ahead of time.

Due to the proximity of these works to the Council’s, we are working closely with both utility companies to coordinate and minimise ongoing disruption to businesses and residents.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience as we work to improve the area.

  • Works begin this week!

Workers will be onsite from this week to transform Forest Road into a better-connected transport corridor to make it easier to walk, cycle and catch public transport.

We’re constructing the scheme in sections, starting with the stretch between Wood Street and Hale End Road.

The works, expected to take about five months, include introducing wider pavements, new segregated cycle tracks, trees and low-level planting including sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS).

We’ve planned the works carefully to keep disruptions to a minimum. Two-way traffic will be maintained, and temporary lights won’t be needed in this section.

    However, please note:

    • Wigram Square may need to be closed for a short amount of time so new continuous footways can be built
    • Two bus stops, A and F, will be relocated slightly during the works.

Following this stage, works at Wood Street junction will begin in autumn 2025.

We’re excited to announce works to make Forest Road a better-connected transport corridor will start in mid-June.

Following an extensive consultation process in July 2023, we analysed your feedback and made changes to the designs based on what we heard.

Since then, we've been working closely with utility providers to coordinate their upgrades and minimise ongoing disruption.

Now Thames Water, Cadent Gas and various Patchworks development utilities companies have completed their works, we’re ready to begin construction between Wood Street and Hale End Road.
